Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect for the term 2024-2029, met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, September 7, in Malaysia. The two leaders, who have a longstanding friendship, discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Prior to this meeting, Prabowo had also met with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. During the discussion with Anwar, both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the ongoing cooperation between their two neighboring countries.
Expressing gratitude for the constructive dialogue, Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a harmonious and mutually beneficial defense relationship with Malaysia. He also extended a personal invitation to Anwar to attend his presidential inauguration scheduled for October in Jakarta.
Anwar, in turn, expressed his delight at meeting his longtime friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as Indonesia’s next president. Anwar further confirmed his attendance at the Indonesian presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024, in Jakarta, through an Instagram post on his official account.
Highlighting the importance of bilateral relations, Anwar emphasized his commitment to further enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. He also underscored the significance of strengthening regional cooperation within ASEAN, reiterating the mutual dedication between the two nations.
