President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the enduring relevance of the “Bandung Spirit” during the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s commitment to global peace and respect for international law were highlighted by President Prabowo in his remarks at the forum. He reiterated Indonesia’s support for global peace through multilateralism and the upholding of international law, firmly rejecting war and double standards in international affairs.
The importance of upholding the “Bandung Spirit”, which promotes solidarity among developing nations and was established at the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia, was also emphasized by President Prabowo to his fellow BRICS leaders. This reference was warmly welcomed by Brazil, the host country of the summit, as they had already invoked the Bandung principles in their opening statement.
Indonesia’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir, confirmed the positive reception of Indonesia’s first participation as a full member of BRICS and Brazil expressed hope for the revival of the Bandung legacy to further advance the interests of developing nations. The call for the continued relevance of the Bandung Spirit within the BRICS forum, especially regarding the Palestinian issue, was made clear by President Prabowo Subianto.
