Apple has released the iOS 17.4 operating system globally with new features, one of which is the audio transcript feature in the Apple Podcast app, and the ability of Siri to read messages.
Apple has globally released the iOS 17.4 operating system for iPhone users on Wednesday (6/3). This update brings several new features, including more than 100 new emojis, the audio transcript feature in the Apple Podcast app, and Siri’s ability to read incoming messages in various languages.
However, the most interesting thing is Apple’s decision to allow iPhone users in the European Union to install apps from outside the Apple App Store, known as sideloading.
According to CNET (6/3), for users outside the European Union, iOS 17.4 also offers some interesting updates. The audio transcript feature in Apple Podcast allows users to search for specific phrases or words in English, French, German, and Spanish language podcast episodes. Siri is also enhanced, with the ability to read incoming messages in various languages such as Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and others.
In addition, there are more than 100 new emojis, including lime, broken chain, brown mushroom, and nodding/shaking head emojis. iPhone 15 users will also see more detailed battery information under the Battery Health settings, including cycle count, manufacturing date, and other information.
Other features include the ability to add songs identified by the music recognition feature to the Apple Music library and playlists, as well as updates to the music recognition feature introduced in iOS 14.2.
The importance of the sideload feature in the European Union cannot be ignored. Apple has finally allowed users in that region to download apps from outside the App Store, in response to the Digital Markets Act of the European Union. Although there are requirements and costs associated with this feature, users in the EU will be able to download apps from sources other than the App Store.
With this feature-rich update, iPhone users worldwide can enjoy a better and more varied experience with their devices. To download iOS 17.4, users can go to Settings > General > Software Update on their devices.
