President Prabowo Subianto has set a bold target to expand the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Makan Bergizi Gratis / MBG) to reach 82.9 million children throughout Indonesia by the end of 2025. During the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB) held at the Jakarta Convention Center, Prabowo emphasized the national significance and urgency of this initiative.
Prabowo recounted a poignant experience during a recent visit to Central Java, where the demand for the program was evident. Moved by the plea of schoolchildren along his journey, he was deeply impacted by their call for nutritious meals. This experience prompted him to instruct his team to accelerate the program’s implementation, aiming to reach 20 million children by mid-August.
The President expressed his determination to continue expanding the program with the goal of reaching 82.9 million children by December 2025. He highlighted that Indonesia’s efforts have captured global attention, with other nations closely following this ambitious program. Prabowo shared how international leaders have expressed interest in learning from Indonesia’s approach, with some even considering sending teams to study the initiative.
Despite his optimism, Prabowo stressed the importance of delivering tangible results to match the ambitious targets set. He acknowledged the need for accountability and expressed his willingness to be held responsible for the progress of the program. The Free Nutritious Meal Program is a crucial component of Prabowo’s broader vision to address child hunger, malnutrition, and educational disparities, aiming to provide every child with the necessary resources to thrive and succeed.
