The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has decided to suspend the operations of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) temporarily due to the discovery of substandard food in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the BGN, stated that BGN has taken decisive action by suspending the affected SPPG units until the investigation is completed and the MBG food samples are thoroughly tested in the laboratory. BGN is collaborating with independent institutions, local health, and education departments to investigate the cause of the incident and to ensure the health of the affected students is closely monitored. The agency expressed its deepest apologies to the students, parents, schools, and all parties impacted by the discovery of unfit food in the MBG Program. It was emphasized that BGN has a zero-tolerance policy for any negligence in the procurement and distribution of MBG meals that could endanger the health of beneficiaries. The health and safety of all MBG recipients remain the top priority for BGN, who is working closely with local government authorities to ensure a swift and effective response on the ground. The agency is currently implementing corrective measures including stricter partner screening, enhanced hygiene standards, improved supply chain and food quality monitoring, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on best practices and expert recommendations. Redy highlighted that the BGN is fully committed to ensuring that the MBG Program adheres to all food safety standards and provides its intended benefits without compromising health, with the support and vigilance of all stakeholders.
