Two high school students from Papua recently shared their pride and excitement in participating in Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations as members of the Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka) at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta alongside President Prabowo Subianto. Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage from Papua Pegunungan Province and a student at SMA Negeri 1 Wamena, along with Stincek Laramiapa from Papua Tengah Province representing SMA Negeri 1 Nabire, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be part of this prestigious event. Both students described the selection process that led them to this moment, emphasizing the rigorous physical training they underwent to prepare for the occasion. Despite the initial challenges, they are enthusiastic about representing their provinces and the entire country on such an important day. With a strong commitment to delivering their best performance, the students look forward to raising the national flag with pride and honor in front of the President and the nation. Their journey from being strangers to forming a tight-knit team with participants from all 38 provinces reflects the importance of unity and camaraderie in achieving a common goal. As they prepare to perform on August 17, both students admit to feeling nervous but acknowledge that the joy and excitement of the moment far outweigh any nerves they may have.
